For this assignment, I chose to place this space-faring figure from the original moonlanding into the burning oil fields of the Gulf War in order to mirror the same dissonance someone may feel when seeing foreign entities (i.e. United States military) in sovereign states. I found these images on Pinterest and the files were simply jpegs. Starting out, I had to begin with a much smaller image in order to place the figure and landscape in order to conceptualize the piece as a whole; only then could I blow up the image to the specified 12x12 resolution and slightly modify and overlay the image to create balance. I feel as though in the future I should most importantly keep the original images sources in order to cite them; I also think more references in general would help to create a more cohesive piece.

Visual Fluency For this project, I chose to create a collage to evoke an analogy towards relationships in times of tribulation. I decided to choose a more modern subject (i.e. the couple presented as the focal point in my collage) in order to reference the present-day obstacles that young couples may endure, such as addiction, homelessness, and a general uncertainty towards the future; in contrast, I also utilized images of Greco-Roman style statues and figureless hands so as to suggest a more timeless mood considering love and troubled romance. In order to tie these two concepts together, I removed the saturation from all subjects, placed them in a synonymously black and empty environment, and then used some after-affects to add a bit of color and distortion so as to move the eye around the piece itself in an interesting manner. The most difficult aspect of creating the piece was pulling it all together in a cohesive manner so as to not allow any one subject of the image distract too much from the other subject matter. For instance, I was not sure whether or not to leave faces completely out of the piece so as to create an unnerving mood, however in the end I decided to leave the couple untouched in that regard so that they would end up being the focal point of the piece. The images in the piece itself can be sourced to Soft White Underbelly and their episode with Celeste and Sebastian, the Rape of Prosperpina by Bernini Gian Lorenzo, and the other images I was not able to find a reliable source for as I found them off Pinterest.
